玉川高エネルギー宇宙物理研究室

われわれの住む宇宙は137億年前のビッグバンから始まりました。最初は水素とヘリウムしか存在しなかった宇宙も、星の内部での核融合、超新星爆発における元素合成によって、現在の多様な元素に満ちあふれた世界に進化しました。われわれは人工衛星を用い、天体からのX線・ガンマ線を観測することにより、元素が創成される、まさにその現場を観測しています。加速器を用いた原子核の研究と組み合わせ、宇宙における元素創成のシナリオを完成させることを目指しています。また、中性子星やブラックホールなど、地上では決して到達できない極限状態にある天体において、われわれの持つ物理の知識がどこまで通用するのか、検証する観測を行っています。これらの研究を推進するため、次世代の人工衛星に搭載する独自のX線検出器の開発も行っています。
