On May 6, 2012, President Ryoji Noyori and a delegation from RIKEN met with Professor Vadim Kukushkin, President of the Chemical Society of Saint Petersburg, and Professor Sergey Tunik, Vice Rector of Saint Petersburg State University, at the university in Saint Petersberg.

During the meeting, both sides raised shared awareness of the importance of collaboration, and how groundbreaking progress can be reached through students and scientists from different cultural backgrounds understanding each other. It was agreed to build strong partnerships not only through large research institutes but small-medium sized facilities.
