2006.11.07
On November 3, 2006, it was announced that the Japanese government will award the Gold and Silver Star of the Order of the Rising Sun to Professor Tsung-Dao Lee, for his work in fostering Japanese researchers and in promoting academic exchange between Japan and the United States. Professor Lee is Director Emeritus of the RIKEN BNL Research Center (RBRC) and a Professor at Columbia University.
It was thanks to Professor Lee's efforts that RBRC was set up within the Brookhaven National Laboratory. He was the first Director of the center, and made great contributions to its development, especially through training of young researchers and promotion of collaborative research on spin physics between Japan and the United States.
We offer our sincere congratulations to Professor Lee on this honor.
