Research Areas

It is important to understand plant molecular responses to various environmental stress, such as drought, cold, high-salinity and heat for improvement of plant productivity under the adverse environment. We are analyzing novel transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation mechanism through chromatin remodeling and RNAs in abiotic stress responses by genomic approaches. We collaborate with other research teams inside and outside the center on whole-genome transcriptome and epigenome analysis using the cutting-edge genome technologies, such as tiling array and next generation sequencers. We are also establishing a cassava functional genomics platform and advancing cassava molecular breeding in collaboration with oversea research organizations (CIAT, Mahidol Univ., AGI etc.).

  1. Whole-genome transcriptome and epigenome analyses in drought, cold, high-salinity, heat stress and ABA responses using cutting-edge genome technologies
  2. Functional analysis of genes and functional RNAs involved in environmental stress and ABA responses
  3. Analysis of (post)transcriptional regulation mechanism through chromatin remodeling and RNAs
  4. Establishment of cassava functional genomics platform and its application to molecular breeding
