Research Areas

The LSA Bioinformatics Core Facility collaborates strongly with the other group and team of the Omics Sciences Center (OSC) at RIKEN. In joint research projects, we develop and implement the Bioinformatics methods required for the analysis of the novel and original data arising from novel high throughput experimental methods developed within the OSC. We also cooperate with other research groups at RIKEN and outside of RIKEN as well as with a large number of international collaborators. The LSA Bioinformatics Core Facility is the core Bioinformatics group of the Functional Annotation of the Mammalian Genome (FANTOM) project.
Currently, 10 researchers and 10 technical scientists and scientific programmers are working in the LSA Bioinformatics Core Facility together with 3 system engineers taking care of the computational infrastructure. We frequently welcome visiting scientists and interns and we recently started to accept PhD students in collaborations with several national and international universities like The University of Tokyo, Keio University, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and the Karolinska Institute.

  1. Functional Annotation of the Mammalian cDNA (FANTOM)
  2. Further develop the Bioinformatics aspects of the Cap Analysis of Gene Expression (CAGE) technology for Next Generation Sequencing technologies
  3. Find novel classes of functional non-coding RNA
