RIKEN SPring-8 Center

Director
Tetsuya ISHIKAWA (D.Eng.)
SPring-8 (the Super Photon ring-8 GeV), the world-leading research facility, provides the most powerful synchrotron radiation (SR). SR is electromagnetic waves emitted from an electron traveling almost at the speed of light when its path is altered under a magnetic field.
For the efficient use of this SPring-8 facility, the RIKEN SPring-8 Center was recently established to encourage frontier research programs in the wide variety of science fields such as Structural Biology with the analysis of the high-order structures of proteins and Materials Science that inspires to new leading-edge science.
The Center also focuses on technical developments for the best SPring-8 SR sources and conceptual design of a new light source for the next generation SR.
