Research Areas

We are investigating physiological or pathological roles of cells functioning in living tissues by using in vivo imaging methods including PET, MRI, and optical imaging. In particular, we aim to establish new strategies for treating neurological disorders or malignancy by imaging specific molecules expressed in stem/progenitor cells in the central nervous system, and in cancer/cancer stem cells. Furthermore, we are developing integrated research systems with multi-modal analyses of molecules functioning in the brain, neural activity, and animal behavior, by combining molecular imaging, histology, electrophysiology, and behavioral analysis, in order to understand the integrated brain function, especially in the induction of fatigue sensation, depression, and pain sensation.

Research Subject

  1. Development of multi-modal imaging techniques for understanding the integrated brain function (in particular, fatigue sensation, depression, and pain sensation)
  2. Control of the living system (neuro-immuno-metabolism) by photo-dynamic techniques or mathematical analyses
  3. Molecular imaging of stem/progenitor cells in the central nervous system and analyses of the cellular functions
  4. Molecular imaging of cancer/cancer stem cells and manipulation of the functions
