We aim to create novel molecular-based functional materials through precise control of physical and structural properties at molecular and nanoscale levels. By taking full advantage of organic, polymer, and supramolecular chemistry, we design molecular components, which not only respond to light, electric and magnetic stimuli, but also exhibit mechanical and dynamic properties. We also develop methodologies to achieve a site-specific integration of such molecular components into a hierarchical structure, so that small changes of individual molecule triggered by external stimuli are accumulated, amplified, and converted into a different energy output. Through these works, we intend to establish new design concepts of soft materials with highly efficient energy-conversion systems.
