Research Areas

Near-field NanoPhotonics Research Team is developing near-field optical scanning microscopy, which overcomes the diffraction limit of a light (~250 nm in visible light) that is determined by the wavelength of the light. In order to confine photons in the nanoscale, we will establish the principle of nanophotonics specifically observed in the near-field corresponding to the mesoscopic scale, and develop the analytical system, which achieves <10 nm spatial resolution. We visualize several nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, DNA bases, and strained silicon substrate. In addition, we will develop near-field specific functional nano devices and investigate the devices by the near-field optical microscopy.
