Research Areas

We systematically isolate secondary metabolites from microorganisms and derivatize natural products by genetic engineering. We develop Natural products (NP) plot database to efficiently isolate metabolites with various structures. We are trying to diversify valuable metabolites by modifying gene clusters in the microorganisms. In this project, we utilize Streptomyces genome sequence information and fungal genome sequence database. The structural diversity of secondary metabolite is also increased by chemical modification. Structure-activity relationship studies are approaches used for chemical optimizations.

Research Subject

  1. Systematic construction of secondary microbial metabolite library
  2. Production of various new chemicals using genetic engineering methods
  3. Target oriented chemical modification and synthesis of bioprobes
  4. Construction of chemical database
