AICS is the organization which has two major divisions, one for research and development of computational and computer sciences and the other for operation, management and development of the K computer which represents supercomputing technology as one of the key technologies of national importance.
In AICS, computer science and computational science closely cooperate, and conducts research and development of common foundational nature for a wide range of fields in computational science, and also conducts research and development for high performance computing technologies.
Foundational research and development are extended to three fields such as computational science, computer science and the area in common. The computational science branch conducts research and development of common foundational nature as well as field fusions in computational science, and leads computational science in Japan, with close collaboration with computer science from a long term perspective.
The computer science branch, having close collaboration with computational science, conducts research and development of high performance technologies for the K Computer, as well as research and development of next generation supercomputer technologies for computation, software, and computer systems. Also the common area branch conducts research and development of foundational technologies common in computer science and computational science.
AICS engages in research and development of advanced usage technologies and advanced operation technologies of the K computer and related facilities which is widely accessible.
AICS cooperates with many research organizations of a wide-range of research fields, forms an international center for research and development, and plays the leading role of computational science in Japan.
