Advanced X-ray Laser Laboratory, RIKEN SPring-8 Center
(Chief Scientist: Takashi Tanaka) |
|---|---|
| Area of Research | Advanced X-ray Laser Laboratory is a new laboratory launched in RIKEN SPring-8 Center (RSC) in April 2013. The mission is to develop light-source devices to produce X-ray laser in SACLA (XFEL: X-ray free electron laser facility) and synchrotron radiation (SR) in SPring-8 (large-scale SR facility), and to explore more advanced XFEL and SR concepts. By promoting these R&Ds, we pursue the goal of enhancing the light source performance of SACLA and SPring-8, and establish an "ultimate X-ray laser facility" in RSC, which eventually leads to creation of a new field of photon science exploiting X-ray lasers. |
| Available Position | One Research Scientist |
| Job Description |
The successful applicant will be in charge of either of the following research targets.
1) Development of advanced SR sources Promotion of R&Ds toward upgrading the SR sources (composed of rare-earth permanent magnets to periodically deflect the electron beam and relevant components, also referred to as undulators) to next-generation devices. To be specific, improvement of SR and XFEL efficiency through upgrading the permanent magnets and related technologies, and realization of an ultra-light and compact device by exploring a more efficient structure than existing devices. 2) Exploring advanced XFEL concepts Exploring novel concepts and schemes in XFELs toward upgrading the laser performance such as enhancing the laser output, improving the laser coherence and compressing the laser pulse. In addition, promoting theoretical researches to realize the new concepts and development of necessary devices and instruments is also the scope of the research program. |
| Qualification | Ph.D (or equivalent research ability and background) in the relevant field of research. At least one year of overseas research experience desirable. |
