| Research Field | The Laboratory has a strong program investigating atomic dynamics in complex materials using x-ray scattering and is expanding to measure electronic dynamics with meV resolution. It is also involved in measurements of materials under extreme conditions and of liquid dynamics, and developing x-ray instrumentation. |
| Job title and Job description |
Two Postdoctoral Researchers
The successful candidates will conduct the research using, primarily, inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS) to probe dynamics with 1 to 100 meV resolution. The Laboratory has access to an established world-class IXS spectrometer (BL35XU) for investigating atomic dynamics and is now commissioning a new, world-leading, spectrometer for measuring both electronic and atomic dynamics (BL43LXU). Extensive off-line facilities for sample characterization and growth are available within the Lab, in addition to the facilities of a premier operating synchrotron (SPring-8) and free-electron laser (SACLA). Possible research directions include investigation of correlated materials, ferroelectrics and related materials, extreme conditions, and some aspects of liquid dynamics. |
| Qualification | Outstanding candidates from any experimental field will be considered, but applicants with previous experience in related spectroscopic methods (IXS, INS, Raman, IR) are especially encouraged to apply. Interest in development of new x-ray techniques and instrumentation will be regarded positively. |
