Laboratory for Cytokine Regulation
Team Leader: Masato Kubo (Ph.D.)
Helper T (TH) cells, which play a central role in the effector and regulatory functions in immunologi¬cal surveillance and aberrations of these functions can lead to various immunological disorders. When the immune system encounters a potential threat, antigen-presenting cells deliver chunks of protein from the invading pathogen to naive T cells, and then the cells can differentiate into several subsets of TH cell that were divided into TH1, TH2, TH17, and TFH on the basis of their non-overlapping cytokine profiles. The overriding goal of our laboratory is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying TH differentiation and the relevance with immunological disorders.
