In health science and medical diagnostics, the level of the sugar, fat, and cholesterol are measured using blood taken from the human body. However, to reduce the stress on the human body and for the continuous monitoring of a living person, noninvasive methods are required. The unit investigates noninvasive methods for the monitoring of living human bodies using optical technology based on the interactions between light and materials, such as absorption, fluorescence, Raman scattering and the nonlinear optical effect. As a first step, we are attempting to measure the hardness of the lens of the human eye by a noninvasive method.
