Processor Research Team
Team Leader: Makoto Taiji (D.Sci.)
The Processor Research Team will conduct research and development into many-core processor architectures. Exa-scale systems will require a high degree of parallel processing, with more than 10,000 cores, and an integrated approach to the design of processors and algorithms will be essential to making the most of the hardware. Our team's goal is the study of general and special-purpose architectures that will accelerate real applications, in collaboration with application and algorithm researchers. We will focus in particular on the development of heterogeneous accelerators. Such processors require system-level integration of general-purpose cores, application-oriented accelerators, memories, and memory/network interfaces. In addition, we will apply our knowledge on processor architecutre for acceleration of application softwares on the K computer.
