RIKEN is always on the lookout for talented young scientists, skilled technicians and experienced researchers to fill positions in the extremely broad range of research being conducted at its many centers and laboratories.
RIKEN offers a diverse array of employment categories that can be broadly divided into tenured and fixed-term positions. Tenured employees, known at RIKEN as “indefinite-term” employees, are guaranteed employment at RIKEN up to retirement age. Fixed-term employees, as the name implies, are hired for a fixed term specified in their contract which usually has an option for renewal contingent upon the results of a performance review.
Principal investigators can be either tenured or fixed-term while the majority of researchers and technical staff are fixed-term.
Finally, RIKEN places special emphasis on providing educational and career opportunities for promising young students, postdoctoral researchers, and aspiring young scientists seeking to head their own labs.
