Area of Research

Theoretical study of electronic properties of strongly correlated electron systems, frustrated magnets, and topological insulators and superconductors. Both analytical (field theoretical) and numerical methods are used to explore new quantum phases of matter.

Available Position and Job Description

Condensed Matter Theory Laboratory is seeking one or two postdoctoral researchers who will contribute to on-going research activities briefly summarized in Area of Research. In addition to these activities, successful applicants are expected to participate in research activities in the RIKEN's Pioneering Project "Interdisciplinary Theoretical Science (iTHES)" (FY2013-2017). The Pioneering Project (T. Hatsuda (project leader), K. Hashimoto, F. Nori, A. Furusaki, A. Mochizuki, and Y. Sugita) promotes interdisciplinary collaborations among theoretical scientists from fundamental physics, materials science and biological sciences; it also aims at understanding nature's multiple-hierarchy problems which are ubiquitous in various disciplines. Successful applicants will belong to condensed matter theory laboratory and iTHES research group.

Qualification

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics.

Salary and benefits

Full-time position with an annually renewable contract based on the evaluation (until March 31, 2018). Salary shall be determined on an annual basis subject to the applicant's experience and performance. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai). Days off are weekends, public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec 29 - Jan 3) and RIKEN Foundation Day. These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
Recipients of JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) category 1 scholarship loans may be eligible to have loan repayments waived (those awarded through FY2003). The researcher in this position will be eligible to apply for research grants offered by MEXT or JSPS.
